Naoshima

Naoshima was one of the highlights of our trip. We took an early ferry to the island with a plan to visit the Benesse House and the Chichu art museum. The best part was that we got to rent electrically assisted bikes that take no effort to go super quick up hills. The work that Tadao Ando does is astonishing and has too much depth for me to understand. However, it was one of the best museums we visited the entire trip, not only was it the exhibits but the concrete architecture of multiple levels and various hallways made me feel like I was somewhere else entirely. After the last museum we decided to eat at a restaurant where I had the best pizza I've ever had and sadly I won't be able to have it again any time soon. After eating we decided to take a daring dive into the Ocean. At first we wondered why no one was swimming there. Half way through the water to a small alcove I realized it's because there are several small sharks and sea urchins all over the place. It was still fun though getting to swim in such a natural bay as opposed to standard California beaches. The water was a great temperature seeing how well the Japanese take care of the environment makes you think about how we do things in the US.
